What’s in it for the artists?

Puls makes it possible set up and join touring networks in the Nordic Region, to establish contact with the music scene in other countries and reach out to a new, much larger audience.

Artists are not eligible to apply for Puls funding; the money goes to venues and festivals to subsidise gigs. Puls makes it possible for venues and festivals to reach break-even at a lower point. It is a Puls requirement that artists are paid professional rates. What artists can do is contact Puls promoters and play an active part in establishing new Nordic networks.

Puls also does focused marketing for the artists featured, and it is important that you take part in it. For instannca, we use crossposting strategies, i.e. everybody sharing posts about Puls gigs, to reach a much wider spectrum of the potential audience, stakeholders and the music industry as a whole.

What artists are supported by puls?

Puls operates in both an artistic and a commercial context, seeking to support the crucial sources of growth in the music industry; i.e., new talent and trends that are not immediately commercially attractive.

We define relevant artists as those who are established in their own country and have international potential. The funding must make the difference as to whether or not an event or gig goes ahead, and the musicians must be paid professional rates.

Funding for artists in the Nordic Region

A rang of funding mechanisms ae available to artists who want to work on the international stage. National schemes fund artists and orchestras with travel grants and help to develop export activities. In other words, opportunities exist for artists to develop the Nordic Region as an export market by touring it – under Puls auspices and by other means.

Artists have to usually apply for funding in their own country.
